Chatting, Sharing, Supporting Mamas

Hello Modern Mamas!

We are just a few weeks away from the arrival of our first!

Are there any words of advice/experience you'd offer that would help the transition from a home of 2 to a home of 3 run smoothly?

A few things off the top of my head ....

1 - frozen meals ready to go in the freezer

2 - set up 'nursing/feeding' station in your living room and baby's room/your room.  You WILL get hungry when nursing.  Water, granola bars, trail mix or nuts, crackers etc.

3 - Give your hubby a list of things around the hospital for him to get things for you easily/quickly - fast food restaurants, the nearest baby shop (cute outfits, necesseties etc), bank machines and gas stations

4 - Take a tour of your hospital if you haven't already

5 - Make a little care package or list for hubby with pillow, sleeping bag, appropriate hospital clothing for him (sweat pants, socks, teeshirts), snacks and his list of phone numbers

6 - Make sure you have comfy clothes ready for the first few weeks.  I wore a lot of flannels for nursing in the winter, yoga pants and sweat suits you love so that you're still cute but comfy when you need to run to the store or have guests.

That's it for now.  Good luck Vicki!!!!

It is true you will be hungry ALOT especially if you are breastfeeding.  I wish someone had suggested that to me. (item 2).  My girlfriend was amazing and made sure I had a large supply of feminine products on hand and my mother in law brought over lots of easy to throw in the oven foods.  Just realize it is new to everyone...cry if you need to it does help.  Just remember to ask for help if you need it!

Thank you so much ladies.

Connie, I will work on #2 and #5 this weekend. We have the rest of the stuff under control. Our freezer is full of meals and cookies! Glad those dishes are done - love the cooking, not a fan of the clean up!

Good luck!  It is a strange, exciting, scary, and wonderful time.  If you haven't got your bags packed now is the time to do it, put them right by the door as hubby WILL forget them in a mad dash to get out the door cause the baby is going to pop out any second (insert eye roll here).  Especially if he is anything like mine.  I had to keep telling him to slow down on the way to the hospital as he kept speeding during rush hour in the middle of a snowstorm.

Thank you for the feedback!

Baby Girl arrived on Dec 30th and I've found it of great help to have snacks and water all around!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I am sure you are thrilled to have her here.  Have fun with her as they change and grow so quickly.  It has been a year this coming Saturday for me and I can't believe how much she has learnt in this year.

I wish someone had told me that...I starved and was thirsty for the first month until I "woke" up enough to put 2 and 2 together and realize maybe just maybe keeping stashes might be a good idea.
