Kjristen White The Importance of Art & Children - Guest Post by Giselle Denis

As a fairly new mom, my son is 2, I highly recommend encouraging your children to explore their creative side with art.  My Mother did the same with my brother and I, and I believe that led me to my art career!

Not every child may necessarily show an interest in art right away, but if you offer it as a daily activity especially at a young age it just might catch on. Some parents say, I…

Kjristen White The Misconceptions of Postpartum Depression - Featured Post by Sajida Pellegrini

This month is Postpartum Depression Awareness month and as someone who once suffered from this misunderstood disorder, I started thinking about the stigma associated with it. Is there anything pregnant and soon to be pregnant women can to do avoid it? Since I am not an expert on the subject I decided I…

Jennifer Winter Activities For Children

Adults often shy away from enjoying the outdoors when the temperatures drop. I would like to encourage you to dress head-to-toe in your winter gear (that's right, even snow pants) and get outdoors this winter! Here's a list of things you can do outdoors with your children once the snow starts to cover the ground.

Snow Painting

Reuse your dish detergent or condiment squeeze bottles by filling them with coloured water. Go to a clean, snowy "canvas" and…

Shandra A Grown Up Guide to the Split Family Christmas

Are you a single parent? Do you dread holidays and special occasions? You know - when the kids start making noise about getting TWO gifts - one from each parent, or when you find out the 'ex' and their new partner have bought a computer for your 11 year old when you've told said child they can't have one until…

Kjristen White Santa Claus Is Coming To Town!

You'd better not pout, you'd better not cry...

Whether you love Christmas or hate it, there is no denying that it's rapidly approaching.  And if you're like me, you like to have pictures of your little one with Santa (yes, that's my happy child above, the first time she met jolly ol' St.…

Jennifer The Carrots In My Life

Fall is my favourite season. It's a time of energy and renewal... a time to make plans and to be productive. It's also the time of harvesting. This year, my garden taught me a life lesson that I feel I must share with you.

Last year I made my first attempt at gardening. I planted some strawberries,…

Jennifer It's Mommy's Turn To Ask Why

You know the phase... your child hits that magical preschool age when they child ask why questions 29 hours out of the 24 hour day. Well, today it's my turn to ask the why questions.

  • Why does my 3 1/2 year old daughter plug the toilet every time…

Fiona MacPherson Camping #2

We went camping this weekend for the second time this year with our 7 1/2 month old.  She was AMAZING!!  But then she is our child.

The nights were chilly but days were beautiful and we couldn't have asked for a better weekend.  The company for the most part was great and we had a good time.  Baby Daddy really enjoys connecting with his friends and I go along to make him happy.

This weekend just solidified for me how I do and do NOT want to raise my little princess.  Whining… Continue

Jennifer Vegan Chocolate Milkshake

My daughter recently asked me for a milkshake. With her severe allergies to dairy, I knew I would have to come up with a clever alternative. Rather than turning to Google, we came up with our own concoction and I must admit, it's delicious!

Jennifer My Shanti Uganda Baby Shower

This past Saturday was my baby shower. Since this is my second child, I didn't need a lot of things so I decided to utilize the opportunity to fund raise for a special charity... The Shanti Uganda Society. 100% of the proceeds from the party goes towards Shanti Uganda's programs aimed to improve the lives of mothers and grandmothers living with HIV/AIDS, improving infant and maternal health and supporting teen girls. I felt this fundraiser was perfect for a baby shower, as some of their… Continue

Jennifer My Best Life: A Vision For The Future

"Vision without action is a dream. Action without vision is simply passing time. Action with vision is making a positive difference." ~ Joel Barker

Do you have a vision of what your "perfect" future would be? I do. However, sometimes the everyday tasks, wants, needs and routines distract me from focusing on my vision. For example, dreams of travelling to Paris may be derailed by my need to treat myself to Starbucks a couple times a week.

My husband recently…

Jennifer My Push Present

Today I received my push present from my husband. A push present (also known as a "push gift" or "baby bauble") is a present a new parent gives a new mother when she gives birth to their child. In practice the present may be given before or after the birth, or even in the delivery room (Wikipedia, 2011).

He stuck with the…

Jennifer Allowing Our Children To Eat Dirt And Walk Barefoot

I recently visited a fellow blogger's site and enjoyed the pictures she had posted of children playing barefoot in her child care program.

As a Early Childhood Professional who's worked in this field for eighteen years, I contemplated the most popular rule in schools and childcare centres... shoes must be worn at all times. Why? Fire regulations? The possibility of hurting one's foot? At what…

Jody | Brand Ambassador My Great Equalizers

Whenever I've had a rough day I search out the same few things to make my day right. If I'm on the road and am having a bad day I search for the nearest Starbucks. Chai makes everything juuuuusssttt right. The first sip makes me say 'Ahhhh', and each sip after that just seems to help me put the pieces back together.

If things have gone wrong and I am home I want my bathtub and a book. There's times I would be perfectly happy to crawl into that thing in the middle of the day but I can… Continue

Jennifer When Colic Took Over My Life

We were told countless times but we didn't listen... "Your first baby was easy... wait until you have your second. It's never easy twice in a row." Thank you nay-sayers! I can now say you were unfortunately right.

For the past three weeks we have been through what seems the never-ending struggle of dealing with a crying baby. Our newest addition is not a happy camper and like so many other parents out there, we feel overwhelmed, tired and helpless.

This past Wednesday, our…

Jennifer What Have We Done?

Our home. Peaceful, quiet, playful and full of gentle laughter. Then the bubble burst. Our home of three has changed to a home of four and it seems that with a blink of an eye, our family life has been turned upside down.

How are we adjusting to being a family of four? We're coping... barely.

Jennifer The Birth Story of Hope

How can I begin to write this? I sit here, hormones raging, body riddled with pain, wondering how do I tell this story without losing control, without breaking down? I can't. However, I know this story needs to be told. Armed with a cup of tea, a box of kleenex, and sitting on my donut pillow, I want to tell you the birth story of my sweet little baby girl.

My First Birth

This story actually begins with the birth…
